Growing up, Luca Missaglia knew two things: Hard work is the clearest path to success, and that he had a passion for bartending and the hospitality industry. He wasn’t completely clear on the direction he wanted to take, but that all changed when a university professor asked him a simple question.
“Why are you here?”
Luca stood up, replied, “I am here because I want to be an entrepreneur!” and was shocked when the professor replied, “If you want to be an entrepreneur you should not be here, entrepreneurs are out in there doing business not listening to a professor!”
This was all of the clarity that he needed. He dropped out of college 3 months later and decided to move to London from his homeland of Italy with a promise to himself: He was going to make it as an entrepreneur and be as successful as his hero, his late grandfather.
Without knowing anyone, or better yet any English, Luca arrived in London in 2009 all by himself. He got started working at a coffee shop to support himself while he learned English and began making connections. Less than two years later after working as a mixologist, his talent and hard work was noticed by a pair of restaurants that sought to hire him as the head of the entire operation at a restaurant and club in London.
Today, Luca has become renowned for his incredible mixology skills and deep knowledge of the nightclub and hospitality industry. He’s won cocktail competitions, managed bars and nightclubs worldwide, has been nominated for several hospitality awards, and serves as a global brand ambassador for a leading cocktail company.
Through all of his success as an entrepreneur, he’ll never forget the lessons he learned from his father and his grandfather growing up. His father would always show Luca how to be strong when he was hurt or struggling, and his grandfather taught him all that he knows about communication skills and body language when he would bring Luca around with him to engage with customers or business partners.
His grandfather inspired him to get his start in the hospitality industry, and his father taught him how to be strong and work hard to achieve his dreams. Needless to say, his upbringing made him into the entrepreneur and man he is today and his incredible work ethic and talent has allowed him to become massively successful as a mixologist and hospitality manager, something he became passionate about as a kid.
