Pickleland: Inside Austin's #1 Indoor Pickleball Club

How a search for a year-round court turned into Pflugerville's 20,000-player pickleball community.

“I started Pickleland because I couldn’t find a place in Austin where I could play indoor, year-round, with people at my level — and have it actually feel like a community,” says founder and owner Alejandro Rioja. “So I built it.”

Two years on, that gamble looks prescient. Pickleland opened its doors on August 23, 2024, in a 22,000-square-foot facility at 21427 Martin Lane in Pflugerville, and has since become the most talked-about pickleball destination in Central Texas — a club rated #1 in Austin with a 4.9-star average across more than 880 Google reviews and 20,000-plus players through the doors.

Nine courts, climate-controlled, year round

The draw starts with the courts. Pickleland runs nine indoor, climate-controlled courts, each fully fenced and separated, with high ceilings, tournament-grade Selkirk nets, and lighting built so a lob never blinds you. In a city where summer heat and sudden storms routinely shut down outdoor play, an air-conditioned room that’s open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays changed the math for serious players.

Upstairs, a mezzanine viewing lounge looks down over the action, alongside a pro shop, a bar, and arcade games — the amenities that turn a quick session into an afternoon.

More than a facility

What’s kept the courts full, though, is the programming. Beyond daily open play sorted by DUPR skill level, Pickleland runs leagues, clinics, junior camps, and a packed social calendar — singles mixers, date nights, themed parties, and free intro sessions for newcomers. Selkirk-sponsored pros lead the coaching staff.

The club has also become a go-to for corporate team-building, hosting outings for Intel, Google, Dell, Samsung, Amazon, and Visa, with capacity for up to 300 guests. “There aren’t many facilities where you can just DM the CEO,” JOOLA noted in a profile of the club — a nod to the hands-on, community-first approach that local press from Community Impact to Pickleball Club Magazine has credited for the venue’s rapid rise.

Visit

Pickleland is open seven days a week — Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and weekends, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. — at 21427 Martin Lane, Pflugerville, TX 78660.
