The December 2026 Album Calendar: Every Record Worth Circling

Two real Fridays, then the holiday shutdown. Here is everything confirmed so far, with a named source for every date.

Every release calendar has a month where the honest answer is “not much,” and for the record business that month is December. There are two Fridays with real releases, the 4th and the 11th. After that the schedule empties, because no label wants to launch an album into the last two weeks of holiday shopping and the year-end lists.

The data shows it. On Wikipedia’s list of 2026 albums, where every entry has to cite a published announcement, 58 releases were dated November 6 when we counted on October 28. December 4 had 7. December 11 had 7. December 18 had one.

Announced album releases per release Friday, November 6 to December 18, 2026Columns falling from 58 announced releases on November 6 to 42, 22 and 15 on the following Fridays, then 7 on December 4, 7 on December 11 and 1 on December 18. So this calendar is short, and it’s mostly the kind of record December is good for: live albums, archive releases, re-recordings and a couple of real new albums from artists with loyal audiences. Every title and date below is confirmed by a published announcement, linked beside it, and also appears on at least one independent release calendar or list. We’ll add titles as they’re announced.

December 4 — the month’s busiest Friday

Slayyyter — Wor$t Man in America. Variety described it as a “brother album” to her Wor$t Girl in America. It’s out through Columbia, and it’s the one December 4 release listed on both the Official Charts and Consequence calendars. It’s the month’s main pop release.

SOAK — decembers. Bridie Monds-Watson’s fourth album, on Rough Trade. Per Clash, it was made after an autoimmune disease stopped them from singing. It moves between America, Dublin, Portugal and Derry, and the title track is about forgiveness. A UK and European tour starts in February 2027.

Morphine — Cocoon. The month’s most significant archive release. Stereogum reports that it collects unreleased music Mark Sandman left behind, from sessions the band started with producers Paul Q. Kolderie and Sean Slade before The Night. Sandman’s partner, Sabine Hrechdakian, went through the tapes and chose the songs. Kolderie mixed them, and saxophonist Dana Colley recorded new parts for three of the eight tracks. Hanif Abdurraqib wrote the liner notes. Out on Partisan.

Parkway Drive — Home – Live at the Sydney Opera House. A 20-track live album of the band’s Sydney Opera House show, on Parkway Records/Civilians, per Rolling Stone Australia.

Self Esteem — A Complicated Woman – Live from Brixton Academy. Recorded during her sold-out three-night Brixton run in October 2025. It has 17 tracks, including all 12 songs from A Complicated Woman, and comes out on Polydor as a red 2xLP, a 2xCD and a signed photobook edition, per Dork.

Also on the 4th, for metal: Eleine — The Water Taste of Blood (Blabbermouth) and End of Green — Ashes & Gold (Metal.de).

December 11 — live albums and reworkings

Keaton Henson — Versions. Eleven re-recordings of his own songs, chosen by fans, on Play It Again Sam. Guests include Luke Sital-Singh, Hinako Omori and the Stockholm studio orchestra heard on the reworked “Prayer,” per The Line of Best Fit. It’s the cleanest example of December’s main strategy: give a loyal audience something to buy without asking it to learn a new record.

Warpaint — Artifact. A 16-track live album on Rough Trade, the band’s original label. It was recorded at shows from 2022 to 2024 in Dallas, Houston, London, Porto, Phoenix and elsewhere, around the 15th anniversary of the Exquisite Corpse EP, per Hot Press.

Panda Bear — pb band live 25 at power station. Seventeen tracks recorded at New York’s Power Station studio at the end of the American tour behind 2025’s Sinister Grift. It features the live band he formed for that record: Tim Koh, Rivka Ravede, Maria Reis and Tomé Silva. Out on Domino Documents, per Clash.

Nightwish — The Greatest 30 Years on Earth. A 30th-anniversary set on Nuclear Blast. It has audio and video from the 2022 Amsterdam and 2023 Kitee concerts, live-in-the-studio recordings, and a new documentary on founder Tuomas Holopainen, per Blabbermouth.

Robbie Bennett — Steloken and Circulation. Two records on the same day from The War on Drugs’ keyboardist, listed by both Consequence and The Line of Best Fit.

Also on the 11th: Victoryland — My Heart Is A Room With No Cameras In It (deluxe), and, for metal, Archon Angel — Beyond the Grave (Blabbermouth), Doro — Wild at Heart (Blabbermouth), and Æther Realm — Season of Bloodshed (Lambgoat).

December 18 — one album

Vybz Kartel — The Sun. Announced on Instagram and made as a full collaboration with producer Chambah, who has worked closely with Kartel since his release from prison in July 2024, per DancehallMag. No tracklist has been shared yet. It’s the only sourced album release dated December 18, which makes it the month’s latest real launch.

December 23 — a Japanese rock record

Man with a Mission — The Circus. On Sony Music in Japan and Century Media elsewhere, per Rock Sound, and listed on Consequence’s calendar.

Reissue season

December is when the catalogue machine takes over. Consequence’s calendar lists several anniversary and vinyl reissues for December 4 and 11. Among them are Billy Joel’s Turnstiles (50th anniversary), Bush’s Razorblade Suitcase (deluxe), Iron Maiden’s Somewhere in Time, Frank Zappa’s Zoot Allures (50th anniversary) and Billy Bragg and Wilco’s Mermaid Avenue: The Complete Sessions. We list these on Consequence’s authority alone. We haven’t found a second confirmation yet, so check dates before you plan around them. The fourth-quarter shift toward physical formats is real: in the first half of 2026, US CD revenue rose 58.6% and vinyl 17.7% (the RIAA numbers).

The takeaway

December’s release schedule is built for people who already care. A posthumous Morphine record, four live albums, an anniversary box and a set of re-recordings aren’t trying to win new listeners. They’re aimed at fans who will buy a gift, a vinyl variant or an archive release. The two genuinely new records most worth circling are Slayyyter’s and SOAK’s, both on the 4th.

If you’re looking for the year’s bigger releases, they’re behind us. November’s calendar has Kings of Leon, U2, Peter Gabriel and Royal Blood. For how 2026’s biggest albums actually performed, see every Billboard 200 No. 1 album of 2026.

Frequently asked questions

What albums come out in December 2026? The main confirmed releases are Slayyyter’s Wor$t Man in America, SOAK’s decembers and Morphine’s Cocoon (December 4); Keaton Henson’s Versions, Warpaint’s live album Artifact and Panda Bear’s live album (December 11); and Vybz Kartel’s The Sun (December 18). Man with a Mission’s The Circus follows on December 23.

Why are there so few new albums in December? Labels avoid launching records into the holiday retail season and the year-end list cycle, so December is mostly live albums, reissues, archive releases and holiday records. On Wikipedia’s sourced list of 2026 albums, there were 58 releases dated November 6 but only 7 dated December 4 and 7 dated December 11, as of October 28, 2026.

What is on Morphine’s Cocoon? Cocoon (Partisan, December 4, 2026) collects unreleased recordings Mark Sandman made in the last years of his life, from sessions Morphine began with producers Paul Q. Kolderie and Sean Slade before making The Night. Sandman’s partner Sabine Hrechdakian chose the songs, Kolderie mixed them, and saxophonist Dana Colley added new parts to three. It has eight tracks, per Stereogum.

Is the Warpaint album new music? No. Artifact (Rough Trade, December 11) is a 16-track live album recorded on tour between 2022 and 2024, in cities including Dallas, Houston, London, Porto and Phoenix, according to Hot Press.

How this calendar is built: every title and date above is backed by a published announcement (linked beside it) and appears on at least one of the release calendars kept by Consequence, The Line of Best Fit and Official Charts, or on Wikipedia’s sourced 2026 album list. Titles we found in only one place were left out. The reissue paragraph is the one exception and says so. Compiled October 28, 2026.
